Vrakhiri blood unlocksDrink from Ambrus, Bakir, or Xanthe for three unique abilities

Major vrakhiri bosses grant Scarlet Shield, Shadowstorm, or Blood Surge when Coen chooses to drink from them. Vials and Lacra's quests provide more unlock and upgrade paths.

How do you drink vrakhiri blood?

The direct method is to disrupt a boyar's operation until the confrontation quest becomes available, defeat the named vrakhiri, then choose to drink from them. The ability is awarded immediately and does not require a skill point.

SourceAbilityHow to reach it
AmbrusScarlet ShieldDefeat him after dismantling his blood operation
BakirShadowstormFinish the regional pressure route and drink after the boss fight
XantheBlood SurgeComplete her confrontation path and choose to feed

Drinking this blood also raises Corruption substantially, helping Coen reach the normal vampire-tree thresholds faster.

Where do blood vials come from?

Vrakhiri-blood vials can drop from specific Murohn bosses and appear in character or regional quests. Documented examples include Murohn dens visited at night, Xanthe's recruiter work in Tantari Woods and The Silts, and the Lost Blood quest in St. Tyna's Grove.

Vials function like ability manuals: they can unlock a supported power or raise its level. Check the item description before using one if you are saving a particular upgrade for a build.

Lacra quest abilities

Two special abilities come from Lacra's chain:

  • Piercing Shriek: complete Our Rotten Roots.
  • Mesmerize: drink Lacra's blood during the romance conversation at the end of The Night of Horrors.

Eating the Mandrake is a separate reward: Mandrake Ward, which prevents one death per night. PowerPyx's quest walkthrough distinguishes the flower's perk from the blood-drinking ability. Eating the flower alone is not the documented Mesmerize unlock. Follow the Lacra romance choices, and save before the conversation if you want to compare outcomes.

Which ability should you get first?

Scarlet Shield is the strongest early defensive target for a Perfect Block build because it can convert successful blocks into healing. It pairs well with Swiftness, Walking Fortress, and Perfect Riposte from the human side.

Choose Shadowstorm when crowd pressure is the larger problem, and Blood Surge when the build needs a more aggressive damage option. Lacra's Piercing Shriek adds another control tool, while Mesmerize supports a character route and utility rather than replacing every combat skill.

Do not chase all three boyars purely for power without considering the story cost. Drinking is a character decision, can affect faction and narrative outcomes, and should be saved before the prompt.

How is this different from Corruption?

Most vampire abilities unlock as Coen drinks blood and raises Corruption. The named vrakhiri powers are different: boss blood or an appropriate vial directly grants a specific ability, and Lacra's quests grant two more through authored outcomes.

Ordinary feeding still matters for health and progression. Animals and hostile enemies provide lower-consequence blood sources, while named characters carry heavier narrative consequences.

Vrakhiri blood FAQ

Do you need skill points for boss abilities?

No. Drinking from the corresponding vrakhiri grants the power directly.

Can vials unlock the same abilities?

Yes. Certain vials can unlock or upgrade vrakhiri-blood powers.

Which boss gives Scarlet Shield?

Ambrus.

How do you unlock Mesmerize?

Drink Lacra's blood during the romance scene in The Night of Horrors. Eating the Mandrake gives Mandrake Ward instead.

Is feeding always safe?

No. Named-character feeding can change or end story routes. Keep blood consumables available so low health does not force an outcome during a friendly nighttime scene.

Lacra's Mandrake and blood rewards were corrected on September 12, 2026 using the quest walkthrough. Other ability sources retain the September 4 launch-reporting review. Story consequences are summarized; save before boss and character feeding decisions.
